Kamp çok iyi geçti. Kampın liderliğini, ilk yazdığımız EVS projesi ile Fransa’ya yolladığımız Melike Yavuz yaptı. Melike EVS’ten 20 Nisan’da dönüp, 5 Mayıs’ta başlayan kampımıza katılma fedakarlığını gösterdi. Taş işçiliği, döşeme ve düzenleme konularında eğitimi olan ve değişik ülkelerde bu tür projelerde liderlik yapan bir Fransız proje lideri olan Joseph Favre Felix de sırf bu projede gruba işi göstermek için yer aldı. Ben (Zafer Yılmaz) de kampı ziyarete gittim ve taş kırarak gruba yardımcı oldum. Kampta 2 liderin yanısıra 6 tane yabancı gönüllümüz vardı. 2011 Mayıs ayından beri St. Paul yolunda yürüyenler, GENÇTUR gönüllülerinin düzenlediği patikalardan geçip, merdivenlerden çıkıyor, ağaç dallarına çarpmadan rahatlıkla yürüyebiliyorlar. Örneğin yandaki bölüm önceden dik bir kaya idi ve yaşlı başlı insanlar buradan aşağı atlamak zorunda kalıyorlardı. Şimdi burası, yapılan oyuklara basarak, yürüyerek geçilebiliyor.

GEN-01 ST. PAUL TRAIL SÜTÇÜLER 05.05 – 20.05 CONS 15 VOLS

St. Paul Trail is one of the most popular and the longest trekking route in Turkey. It consist of footpaths, mule-trails and stone paved paths going over the mountains or through canyons. Its length in total is 500 km and it takes 5 weeks to walk it from the beginning to the end. Due to past earthquakes, heavy rains and winds parts of the trail are now narrow, partly cut off, bushy, steep and untidy. Thus it need to be renovated.

W: . Volunteers will remove stones along the path, reconstruct the broken parts, pave parts with stones, construct steps and add rope handholds. Volunteers will have to walk to the workplace, which is high above a canyon. The working place is isolated and mostly without shade, but very beautifull, and a paradise for nature and hike lovers. 6 working hours per day excluding the lunch break will be spent at the site. The work is physical, and requires much walking on steep montain path wich is sometimes very vertiginous. Be prepared for stonework under a hard sun in a narrow montain path...

LO: Sutculer is a small town near the St. Paul trail, in Isparta Province. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp. The group will travel together to the camp site by an overnight coach on the same evening.

T: Istanbul.

PCD: GENCTUR offers an optional 2 days sight seeing tour in Istanbul before this camp. Volunteers may participate in this tour with an extra cost of 45 Euro for 3 nights bed & breakfast accommodation. The program is organized according to the wishes of the participants. Dates: 02.05 – 05.05.2011

PCD is an optional sight seeing program in Istanbul with an extra cost of 45 €.The PCD starts 3 days before the camp dates and aims to bring the camp participants together in a relaxing atmosphere in order to get to know each other better and to establish good friendships before the camp starts. The daily program is flexible and will be arranged according to the wishes of the participants. GENCTUR’s program recommendation for the PCD is given in PCD Info Sheet below.

If you are not participating in the PCD but planning to come to Istanbul earlier than the date of your camp start date, GENCTUR can reserve a bed for you in the hostel dormitory at a cost of 15 € per night for bed & breakfast. In this case please fill in the EARLY ARRIVAL part of the CAMP CONFIRMATION SLIP below. If you want a hostel reservation in Istanbul after your camp please fill in the LATE DEPARTURE part of the CAMP CONFIRMATION SLIP below.

*LEADER

A bilingual, ex-volunteer who is responsible for the smooth running of the camp. Our leaders are also volunteers. They are neither paid staff nor professionals. Most of them are university students who dedicate their free time for the development of the country and for helping to the local projects and to the foreign young people who participate in GENCTUR camps. They all have previous work camp experience and participate in preparatory meetings.

In this camp a French camp leader and a dry stone wall master will act as the project leader to show how to do the work.

In an old village house. Sleeping bag & mat are necessary. Volunteers will sleep on the floor.

*FOOD

Volunteers will prepare their own meals using the food supplied. Lunches and water will be carried to the work site in bags.

ORIENTATION MEETING

In order to get to know the other volunteers and to have basic information on the camp, Turkey and its culture, GENÇTUR organizes an orientation meeting on the first day of the camp. All volunteers have to attend to get information about the camp and to travel to the camp site altogether. As the camp starts the day after following an overnight bus trip, the volunteers have to cover the cost of the meals on the night of the orientation meeting by their own.

TRANSPORTATION

By a non-smoking inter-city coach from ISTANBUL to Isparta and by bus from Isparta to Sütçüler. ( 13 hours in total) One-way transport to the campsite is organized by GENÇTUR, which will cost about 30-€ for each volunteer. The group travels together.

AFTER THE CAMP

*As everyone has got different plans, and wishes to go different places after the camp, no group travel back to ISTANBUL is organized by GENÇTUR. In case every one wants to go to the same place or come back to ISTANBUL, the group may travel together. If every one wants to travel individually or in small groups the leader helps you to arrange your travel and to obtain a ticket.

* GENÇTUR offers you a chance to extend your stay in Turkey. You can either volunteer or stay as a paying guest in organic farms all over Turkey. The details of the program is below.

NOTES

* If the group travels out of the campsite for the free days, transport, accommodation and food expenses are volunteers' own responsibility.

* The volunteers are expected to respect the rules of the camp and the traditions of the locals and should follow the directions of the group leader

*REGISTRATION FEE

If your organization has no mutual exchange with GENÇTUR (only sending you but not hosting any GENCTUR volunteer) you should pay an inscription fee of 100.-€, which is charged to cover the expenses of running the program, and the office works all year around. Please be aware that this fee is not related with the physical conditions of the camp like the quality of the bed or amount of the food. The fee is paid on arrival, in cash. As GENCTUR doesn't get any financial support from government, local administrations or any other sponsors, this inscription fee is a need.

WHAT TO BRING

Sleeping bag & mat / Working clothes & shoes / A raincoat / Musical instruments that you can play / Games / Pictures of your environment i.e. family, friends, home, school / Your interest, fun and enthusiasm for the project and the group / Your personal goods / Medicines against diarrhoea, sun stroke, pains, allergies/ A hat against the sun / Insurance documents / Enough money for your transport to and from the camp site, for your personal expenses.

INTRODUCE YOUR COUNTRY &

CULTURE

Although this camp is going to be in Turkey, you will meet people from other countries and cultures as well. This is a good chance for you to learn more about different cultures. It is also important that you introduce your country and your culture to the other volunteers. Please bring something reflecting your culture to tell about your country, like a flag, a map, postcards, recipes, pictures, local dresses, basic food, an instrument, etc. (but not alcohol)

WHAT NOT TO BRING

LEADER'S LETTER

You will receive a letter from the camp leader before your camp starts, giving information about him/her, and the camp. If you do not receive it at most 1 week before your camp starts, please contact your sending organisation.

CURRENCY

Turkish money is Lira (TL). 1 $ = 1.60 TL. and 1 Euro = 2.15 TL when this info sheet has been prepared. All prices on the info-sheet are given as foreign currencies due to daily changes of the rate of TL. in order to give an idea about the prices and to keep the fees and fares stable. Thus volunteers are supposed to pay the equal amount of TL and don't need to bring or have foreign currencies for paying the cost of transport. In İstanbul you can easily change money at the change offices without a commission.

INSURANCE

There is no insurance on our camps this year. Volunteers should have their own travel insurance against illnesses and accidents.

YOUR CAMP MATES

GENÇTUR offers you a chance to e-mail your camp mates, thanks to our placement system E-vet( Electronic Volunteer Exchange Net). You can communicate with all your camp friends from any country before you depart. If you did not get the password, please contact your sending organisation first and if they can not supply it, write to us.

Mobile phones are functional in Turkey if they are open to international roaming. International calls can be made by the counter system phones (you pay as long as you talk) in private communication centers, or by phone cards which are available from the post office in the town.
